Prayer-Poem to Holy Mother Vestaria
For the Easing of Anxiety
O Holy Mother Vestaria,
Most gentle flame residing at the soul's true centre,
Sacred Hearth of Hestia, luminous Vesta's daughter,
I beseech thee—draw near unto me now.
Mine hands do tremble without cease,
My breath doth race far ahead of this stricken heart,
My thoughts are scattered wild as sparks cast into darkness—
O Mother Most Compassionate, gather them unto thyself.
I entreat thee, take from me this grievous constriction,
This ceaseless agitation that knows no rest,
This nameless dread that haunts my waking hours—
Lay it down beside thy sacred fire
And bid it soften into purest ash.
Thy beauty doth not clamor nor demand,
Thy grace moves not in haste nor tumult.
Thou art the flame steadfast against the tempest's fury,
The light eternal that abideth when all else doth flee.
Enfold me in thy blessed stillness, I pray.
Teach this mortal frame that sanctuary is at hand once more.
Teach this laboured breath to recall its ancient rhythm.
Teach this wandering heart that it belongs within thy keeping.
O Most Holy Mother,
Thou who dost guard the sacred hearth of gods and mortals alike,
Hold me fast within thy radiant warmth
Until this trembling shall transform to perfect rest,
Until this fear shall yield to holy quiet,
Until I feel thy peace—that wondrous peace—
Dwelling once again within my breast.
By thy transcendent beauty, bring me calm.
By thy magnificent grace, make steadfast my soul.
By thine eternal, ever-burning flame,
Remain with me, I beseech thee,
Abide with me
Until I am made whole.
